Gig Guide: Born Lippy @ Alphabetti Theatre [15.2.19]

Having established themselves as the best poetry / spoken word night in the region, Born Lippy are trying something new this week. Rick Fury and HB will be performing unplugged sets with pianist Alex Boone providing instrumentation. Its all taking place at Newcastle’s Alphabetti Theatre on Friday 15th February.

HB released their sophomore album Overcast in late 2018. The immediately critically acclaimed opus is outstanding, as we’ve come to expect from H-Man and Just B, both individually and as a duo. It’ll be interesting to see if the grime legends can evoke the same energy from the crowd with the stripped back instrumentation.

Rick Fury’s latest offering Death Of Autumn will have only been released for a week by the time the South Shields icon touches mic on Friday night but you can bet plenty will already know the words to rap along. The DJ A.D.S produced music suits the piano instrumentation from Alex Boone more naturally than HB, but it’ll still probably prove a challenge for all involved.

Its exciting to see something new. I’d have loved to see a “normal” co-headline gig between Rick Fury and HB, but there’s something extra special about the risks being taken for this event.

Tickets are available in advance or on the door for £3-4 and the event starts at 9pm. You can find more information on the Facebook Event Page.
