Matt Dunbar headlines Little Buildings on Friday 8th February with support from Mahatma Raindrop, Dolan Springs and Alex Kirtley.
Having supported Holly Rees in December, Matt Dunbar takes centre stage in the latest gig booked by Rhys Melhuish’s Rhyme promotions. I seen the singer-songwriter as a solo act at Tynemouth Food Festival a couple of years ago and instantly bought an EP from Matt. Its interesting to see the evolution of Matt Dunbar from a solo act to a five-piece band, but its great to know there’s still the same music. Matt has a knack to writing about ordinary things and turn it into art.
According to their Facebook, Mahatma Raindrop is the result of a catalytic collision of musicians, all wearing a unique collection of influences on their sleeves and with a mutual love of big guitar riffs, mega hooks and great tunes no matter the genre. The Huddersfield band are expecting to release an EP in 2019, might we hear some new material on Friday night?
Dolan Springs might be pulling double duty for the gig. The multi-instrumentalist was the drummer for The Great & The Magnificent back in the day but is now playing bass for Matt Dunbar alongside pursuing a solo career of his own.
Whitley Bay’s Alex Kirtley rounds off the supports. Having not released anything since mid-2018, and the last full-length release dating back to 2017, its not out of the realm of possibility this might be the first taste of a return for the alternative folk artist.
