Macklemore’s career is currently at a crossroads. Alongside producer Ryan Lewis, the Seattle rapper became a superstar off the back of Thrift Shop and other singles from The Heist. Backlash after winning The Grammy for Best Rap Album over Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid Maad City seemed to take the shine of Macklemore a little and he hasn’t quite been able to recapture that level of success since. But he’s probably only one big track from hitting those heights again.
One year ago today, Macklemore released GEMINI. Its the first album the rapper has dropped without Ryan Lewis since the duo were catapulted to superstar status. Macklemore co-produces a large portion of the album himself, with other credits going to Dopps, Budo and Jake One.
GEMINI features Lil Yachty, Kesha and Offset. The album charted in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and US.
