Hip-hop was born in New York City in the early 70’s and has since become the most popular genre of music in the world. Still, the globally influential culture remains rooted in its home in America with few international rappers gaining popularity comparative to those from the States. Canada is rising through Drake, and Skepta is leading the charge from the UK and in Australia, one of their greatest exports include Hilltop Hoods.
On this day in 2003, Hilltop Hoods released their third studio album The Calling. Considered a classic in Australia, the album demonstrated the ability of hip-hop to be a popular genre in the country. The album is produced by the group’s members except for The Certificate produced by Dazastah which features Certified Wise.
The Calling also features Hyjak, DJ Bonez and DJ Next. The album charted at number 50 in the Australian ARIA Albums Chart.
