Pass The Aux 009: DJ LKP

Throughout August 2017, TheRootMusic is celebrating hip-hop and grime scene in the North East of England as part of ‘Local Music Month.’ As part of this we have contacted a range of artists, DJs, and other behind-the-scenes individuals to ‘Pass The Aux’ and express some of their personal favourite music releases.

DJ LKP has been on a roll recently with his mixes making prime time BBC Radio 1Xtra airplay. Having put int he work as a singer earlier in his career, LKP can now be found at the best clubs in Newcastle spinning various genres of music. Special shout out to LKP for combining two of the greatest things in life hip-hop and pizza with Beats & Eats.

Reali-T ft. Beezy & Raza – No Way
Lee introduced me to this, and its a banger. The fact I can drop it in pretty commercial sets makes it a great intro for people who wouldn’t normally listen to North East rap.

The Great & The Magnificent ft. Kameron Corvet – When I’m Gone
I first heard this years ago when Big Beat Bronson were still a thing. Steesh is an amazing producer and songwriter to be honest, and this is probably my favourite song by them, the vocals are unreal.

Domzilla – Holding
Dom and I used to work together in Tesco when we were teenagers haha. I first saw him on stage in about 1999, he’s a musical genius. This is nice and chilled, like a lot of his latest material.

Baron Von Alias ft. LKP & Dom P – The Sun Might Shine Tomorrow
First thing I sang on for Steesh, and the first official Baron album. Couldn’t not put a few songs on the list without me on eh?

Chroma ft. LKP – Falling Down
One of the best DnB tunes I have done…Good mates again, I miss turbulence! It was a class night.

LKP – Roll The Dice
Worked with the Illionaires on this one, and it featured on the KTF series of mixtapes back in the day. Still love this tune now.

Grey Tapes – Half Notes Floating
Some of the Newcastle’s best kept secrets, Grey Tapes. Great EP, I got into them via Mr Blazey who has been one of the Newcastle’s most interesting producers for the best part of a decade.

Elliot Adamson – 6PM In Newcastle
Absolute banger, support from all the big names and he keeps on churning out tunes every week that work. A name to watch in house music for the next few years.

Smoove & Turrell – Broken Toys
Proper fantastic soul music from another one of the North East’s OG’s. Smoove. A great selection of productions and albums from him and the band.

King Bee – Bee To The Flower
King Bee are amazing! Check them out at Hoochie Coochie whenever you get the chance. This record introduced them to me, proper soulful business. Lush.

Big Beat Bronson – Let Me Out
Gutted this one never got the full support of radio like we had with some of the other tunes! Banger and a festival favourite for me.

Aems – Geordie Slang Like This
This used to go off in Reign. Unreal tune and as Geordie as it gets especially in the video!
