Throughout August 2017, TheRootMusic is celebrating hip-hop and grime scene in the North East of England as part of ‘Local Music Month.’ As part of this we have contacted a range of artists, DJs, and other behind-the-scenes individuals to ‘Pass The Aux’ and express some of their personal favourite music releases.
Following Mudfoot Blaps for ‘Pass The Aux’ is North East based hip-hop journalist Johno Ramsay. Building a name for himself as a reputable blogger in his own right with Ride Music, Johno is no stranger to TheRootMusic having become a regular feature on the radio show. The Ride Music writer has delivered his 12 local hip-hop and grime tracks he wishes to spotlight:
J Smirk ft. Kay Greyson & Smooth Jezza
I’ve had the privilege of being on stage at the O2 whilst this song was performed, a special one for me.
Eum – G o g h
This kid intrigues me, it’s refreshing to see someone so young and passionate about hip-hop.
E-Mence – Coming Home
After seeing this guy perform for the first time at the last ObSceNE: Open Mic, I couldn’t help but think he has something special.
Max Gavins – Mic Ashley
In my opinion this is one of the most anthemic track to come out of the NE, I love it.
Kay Greyson – Still Animals
I love the vibe on this track, in my opinion Kay is destined for big things.
90BRO & Reali-T – Digital Age
“I picked this beat just to piss you off.”
NATO – Buzz With A Pound
This track gets my hyped, so much energy.
Reali-T – Smile For The Camera
I’m in the video so it had to make the list.
Rex Regis – Married To The Game
Amazing video, quality track from one of the best in the NE.
HB – The Storm Is Here
H-Man’s energy is unreal, its insane. This is a classic track.
Terra-T – So Blessed
I genuinely think Terra is one of the most underrated artists in the North East.
RG – Newcastle City
The first ‘Geordie Rap’ track I ever heard, brings back memories.
