The hip-hop and grime scene’s in the North East of England are currently gaining momentum and recognition more than ever before. With Jister becoming the first rap artist to feature on NARC.’s magazine cover, Zico MC flying out to Croatia to perform at Outlook Festival and Hash Rotten Hippo’s ObSceNE open mic night offering a platform for young artists to build their presence and ability on stage – you could argue we’re approaching a golden era.
As a result in the rise of popularity, there are more acts being booked for gigs across the region. Sam Wright has been booking gigs in Cullercoats’ Mr Woods cafe for months now and this Friday there will be a full bill packed with some of the hottest North East musicians.
Fresh off of his album release which was album of the week on TheRootMusic, Reali-T will be opening the night with NATO, J Smirk and headliner Kay Greyson will also be performing on Friday night. With each of them bringing alternative styles to traditional hip-hop, the gig is certain to be accessible to the usual crowd for the Mr Woods’ gigs but hopefully also a step forward to get more acts booked in the future.
Hush Entertainment’s KT Mosebi will be DJing the free event and doors open at 7pm. For more information check out the Facebook event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/361948690874516/
