Kirk Knight ft. Dyemond Lewis: Extortion (Review)

Up until recently, I wasn’t fully aware of Kirk Knight‘s mic abilities, mistaking him as a producer-only. This collaboration with Dyemond Lewis, is testament to my foolishness for sleeping on the Pro Era emcee, who I recently sat down with for an interview.
Extortion” was originally apart of the collaborative Pro Era-Scion AV mixtape, but re-released by Kirk without the ‘clean’ censorship. As ever with Hip Hop, the explicit version is even better, with a more eclectic energy than the ‘friendlier’ alternative and it went down a treat with the Newcastle crowd on Wednesday night when he performed it whilst on tour with Joey Bada$$ for the ‘B4DAMONEY’ UK leg.
Laying down an open invitation for whoever “wants war” in the intrusive hook, Kirk kills his verse with a similarly abrasive voice inflection that matches the violence-filled lyricism. Dyemond comes with his A game too, with a more fluent flow than his Pro Era opposite, but a less impactful lyrical offering – making them about even in terms of the ‘who killed it’ debate.
